What is a PU jacket?
PU stands for polyurethane — a polymer coating applied to a fabric backing to create a leather-look or suede-look surface. A suede-effect jacket is a PU jacket with a napped, brushed face that imitates the hand of real suede while keeping the weight, drape and price of a coated textile. It is the material that made the leather look accessible at volume: it holds colour evenly, takes embroidery and appliqué cleanly, and needs no hide selection, which is why it carries far lower minimums and far more predictable grading than genuine leather.
